Longechuk Community Association was formed in 2005 as a county came out from Maiwut southern Sudan Upper Nile. The LCA included Nya-Jani, Reeng Mayar, and Thieng-Baar. These three local communities organized themselves in North America to make a different for thier Newly County which was formed by Southern Sudanese government. However, some controversies were arrived within the community itself.
The LCA fifth meeting was held in Albert Lea, Minnesota June 03, 2006. A meeting was for Thieng-Baar Issue that Longechuk County could arrange its leaders without election. Thieng-Baar had raised this issue and they brought it for a discussion if it was a right idea or not. In that meeting 26 people were attended the meeting and 16 people disagreed for that idea. 10 people agreed for that idea.
The last word Thieng-Baar stated that if the election still active in the community, they could not longer to be members of the longechuk community Association, unless thre is no election. Due to this statement, we have to recall another meeting instead.
The meeting ended without solution. Therefore, according to the community leaders, there will be a final meeting to solve this problem very soon in July 2006. This issue needs a good decision because we have to make a good choice or essential ideas for our community. If we may choose bad choices, this will be the failure for us. I think this is an important issue and we have to think wisely to come to the resolution.
Suggestion agenda (S) are: Can we select leaders without election? Thieng-Baar stated that if there is an election, they will split out from Longechuk. Is it okay to isolate them? Thirdk, can we stop to run Longechuk in North America? Fourth, Can the two local communities Reeng, and Nya-Jani can do Longechuk without Thieng? In the coming meeting, these will be our agenda (S) to discuss. We need to select one of the best idea among these suggestions agenda (S).
Thank you all
